Our Story
For over 30 years, Caversham has been home to the Griggs & Mackay, a home and interiors store selling distinctive furniture, lighting, decorative accessories, textiles, kitchenware, gifts, and the occasional antique. With items specially sourced from Scandinavia, France and The Netherlands, our range combines both classic and trend-led pieces with a European flair. We stock British and locally made items too, such as hand-poured scented candles and bottle stoppers crafted from reclaimed wood. Furthermore, we are an award-winning bespoke kitchen and fitted furniture maker, able to transform any room in your home with high quality, handcrafted cabinetry. Made locally in our workshop in Bix, every project is thoughtfully designed and made to the highest standard.
The business was founded by John Mackay and his late mother, Dorothy Griggs. Whilst John stripped pine furniture for the shop and honed his joinery skills (in the illustrious surroundings of an old chicken shed!), Dorothy traded in antiques and homewares. Eventually John started making kitchens, and the business grew steadily to what it is today. Our interiors shop also functions as a showroom for our kitchens, so if you are in the area, do pop in to see our craftsmanship for yourself. Dorothy's interior design legacy continues, and we still sell some antique and vintage pieces from the stock she collected over the years.
Whether you are looking for show-stopping new furniture, a little something to update your space, or want to get some inspiration and discuss your interior, we would love to help you any way we can.
